Jeremy Lawlor scored 77 as Cardiff MCCU made 166/1 on the final day of their match against Glamorgan at The SSE SWALEC with ended in a draw .

Shortly before tea, Bradley Scriven completed his fifty from 122 balls as the students reached 120/0. After the interval, David Lloyd and Michael Hogan undertook the bowling duties as the game moved towards a draw. Scriven pulled Lloyd for a pair of fours before Lawlor nonchalantly steered Hogan through backward point for another boundary.

Lawlor then cover drove Lloyd but to the next delivery, he miscued a pull and was caught at mid-off by Timm van der Gugten for 77. Neil Brand announced his arrival with a cover drive before Scriven added another four to his tally by clipping Hogan to fine-leg. Brand then cover drove Hogan for four before van der Gugten had another short spell at the River End before the captains shook hands at 4.50pm

Teatime Update

Cardiff MCCU resumed after lunch on 49/0 with Michael Hogan and Graham Wagg returning to the attack. Jeremy Lawlor struck the first boundary of the session as he cover drove Wagg, whilst in the next over Bradley Scriven on-drove Hogan for four.

Timm van der Gugten then returned to the attack in tandem with David Lloyd, who beat the bat in his first couple of overs on several occasions. Scriven on-drove Lloyd for four, before Lawlor cover drove van der Gugten en route to a half-century from 127 balls.

Lawlor then pulled a short-ball from Lloyd to the mid-wicket ropes before Scriven on-drove Craig Meschede as the students reached the hundred mark in the 41st over. Lawlor greeted the return of Wagg by pulling him for a couple of fours

Lunch Report

Glamorgan continued batting for 30 minutes this morning, taking their overnight total of 444/7 to 533/7, adding 89 runs in the space of seven overs as the tempo of the game became more akin to a Twenty20 match. Mark Wallace played freely as he off-drove James Turpin for four before pulling Andrew Westphal over fine-leg for six. He then drilled Turpin through mid-off and mid-wicket for further boundaries, followed by a deft glide through backward point plus two pulls for four against Westphal.

Craig Meschede then on-drove Tim Rouse for four before lofting him twice high over long-off and long-on for sixes as the 500 came up in the 105th over. Wallace then slashed Westphal square of the wicket to complete his fifty from 28 balls before Meschede did the same against Westphal to complete his half-century from 38 deliveries. He celebrated with a straight drive for four followed by a lofted on-drive for six against Tim Rouse, whereupon Glamorgan declared

After Glamorgan’s declaration, it was the turn of their bowlers to take centre-stage as the Cardiff MCCU openers – Bradley Scriven and Jeremy Lawlor – began the student’s first innings as Graham Wagg and Michael Hogan shared the bowling duties. Scriven began by off-driving Hogan before Lawlor despatched Wagg through the covers for the first boundary of the innings.
