England captain Eoin Morgan was excited about the challenge of taking on Pakistan in five Royal London One Day Internationals, starting today.
Morgan, who leads England out at The Ageas Bowl, Southampton, today, was relishing the chance for his side to extend their rich vein of form in 50-over cricket.
The Ireland-born batsman has overseen a drastic overhaul of England's approach to One Day International cricket since they were dumped out of the 2015 World Cup by Bangladesh.
Since then, England have enjoyed series victories of New Zealand, Australia and Sri Lanka, as well as a victory in the United Arab Emirates during the winter.
“I'm really excited about the series against Pakistan - they are always a tough side to play against," said Morgan.
“The last time we met I thought we made some outstanding progress as a team. I think winning away from home is always a regarded as a significant achievement and to do that in the UAE gave us confidence as a side."
After a thrilling Test series was drawn 2-2, Morgan is expecting another close encounter in the Royal London ODI series, which concludes in Cardiff on Sunday September 4.
“We played well against Sri Lanka and will look to take some confidence from that series into this one. With the Super Series poised at 8-8 after the test series, it really is all to play for,' he added.
