Glamorgan meet the Essex Eagles in their next match in the Royal London One-Day Cup, with the day-night contest at Chelmsford getting underway at 2pm on Tuesday, July 26th.
It’s a case of first meets third as leaders the Essex Eagles, who are level on 7 points with Somerset, meet Glamorgan in a contest where the Welsh county know that, despite their 33-run defeat under the DLS Method at Taunton on Sunday, a victory on Tuesday under the Chelmsford floodlights would see them return to the top of the group.
Indeed, whilst Glamorgan went down to defeat in their rain-affected contest at Taunton, Surrey convincingly beat the Eagles by 66 runs at Chelmsford with Jade Dernbach’s haul of 4/41 trumping Jesse Ryder’s century as the visitors recorded a victory which will boost their aspirations of a quarter-final spot.
As far as the contest at Chelmsford is concerned, the recent form between the two sides in List A cricket is in Glamorgan’s favour as they beat the Eagles last summer in a 50 overs contest at the SSE SWALEC, with their overwhelming victory by 146 runs being underpinned by a superb 130 from Colin Ingram, before all of the home bowlers chipped in with wickets as the Eagles were dismissed for a paltry 142.
This had been the first List A game between the two sides for six years to reach a conclusion as both of the games in 2011 - at Cardiff and Chelmsford – fell foul of the weather. Prior to that, the match in May 2009 at Chelmsford had witnessed an unbeaten 123 by Gareth Rees, plus a vibrant 72 from Mark Cosgrove as Glamorgan romped to an eight-wicket victory.
