Glamorgan\'s Ruaidhri Smith has been named in a 13-man Scotland squad to face Afghanistan next month.

The uncapped all-rounder, 21, could be in line for an international debut in the two-match ODI series in Edinburgh in early July, after impressing for Glamorgan's 2nd XI.

Smith had been unavailable for Glamorgan in the early part of the season due to exam commitments, as he completed a degree in mathematics from the University of Bristol.

He is joined in the Scotland squad by Wicketkeeper-batsman Craig Wallace and right-arm paceman Brad Wheal, who have both earned recalls.

Glasgow-born Smith has played 14 first-class matches, picking up 28 wickets and scoring 260 runs at an average of 20. He made his debut for Glamorgan in the Count Championship against Kent in September 2013, taking the wicket of West Indies batsman Brendan Nash with his first ball.

Smith was understandably delighted with his selection. He said: "I'm really pleased to be called up to the Scotland squad. It has always been my goal to play international cricket and I'm sure it will be a fantastic challenge.

"I've been tied up with exams in the early part of the season but now I'm really looking to kick on, both in county cricket with Glamorgan and internationally for Scotland."

Scotland Head Coach Grant Bradburn said: "After a lean period of national fixtures, the squad are looking forward to coming together for the first time since the ICC World T20.

"Despite some local and county players being unavailable for consideration for this series, we have brought together a very strong, exciting side on the back of impressive individual performances in domestic, regional and county cricket."
