Glamorgan County Cricket Club has been shortlisted for a prize in the Cardiff Business Awards.

The shortlist for the 2016 Cardiff Business Awards has been announced with organisers declaring this to be the most competitive application process to date – with a record number of entries across all categories.

Glamorgan’s nomination comes in the category ‘Leisure and Hospitality Business of the Year’ – alongside: Clayton Hotel Cardiff, Depot Cardiff and Park Plaza Hotel.

The Cardiff Business Awards celebrate the organisations and individuals helping to ensure Cardiff remains at the forefront of UK economic growth.

The winners of each category, as well as the Cardiff Business of the Year, will be announced on June 24 at City Hall, Cardiff, at a ceremony hosted by BBC Wales presenter Jamie Owen.

Glamorgan Chief Executive Hugh Morris said: “Glamorgan County Cricket Club is delighted to be shortlisted in the Leisure and Hospitality category of the Cardiff Business Awards. We were very proud to host an Ashes Test match in 2015 which brought £25million into the economy of Cardiff and have such positive feedback from spectators attending the match and from local stakeholders who did so much to make the event such a great success.”

“With international cricket matches, concerts and a full calendar of domestic cricket to take place at The SSE SWALEC this summer we look forward to continuing to support our community, build the reputation of our City for hosting major events and help the local economy.”

Prof Jones-Evans, chairman of the judging panel, said: “The standard of entries this year has been of the highest quality, and those companies and individuals who feature on the shortlist have demonstrated their ability to more than exceed any expectations.

“Cardiff is not only Wales’ capital city, it is also home to some of the most exciting, innovative and ambitious companies in the UK. If the high standard of entries that the awards received this year is any indicator of the rest of the capital’s business community, Cardiff’s future as a thriving and progressive local economy looks to be secure.”

Liz Brookes of Grapevine Events, co-founder of Cardiff Business Awards added: “These awards fly the flag for businesses across our capital city. We received excellent entries from across all sectors and all of those who have been shortlisted can be immensely proud of their achievements in business over the last 12 months.

“We wish all the finalists the very best of luck at the awards ceremony in June.”
