Glamorgan Sign Marchant de Lange

Glamorgan County Cricket Club confirm they have completed the signing of South African fast bowler Marchant de Lange on a 3-year contract.

Originally from Limpopo province, de Lange made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at the end of 2011 when he was only 21, taking 7 for 81 in the first innings, but it is in white ball cricket where he has had most success.

A highly skilled death bowler, as well as playing 10 limited overs internationals, de Lange has played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians in the IPL as well as Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League.

After remodelling his action following a stress fracture in 2012, de Lange has recently had a stand-out domestic season in South Africa. He consistently bowls quickly extracting good bounce from an unusually short run-up.

“We are delighted to have signed Marchant de Lange and to see him arrive in Wales today,” said Hugh Morris Glamorgan Chief Executive and Director of Cricket.

“Marchant is a top quality fast bowler who is in the prime of his career and will add a real cutting-edge to our bowling attack. As we complete our preparations ahead of the new season signing a player of Marchant’s ability is a great boost to our prospects for all forms of the game.”

Welcoming the new addition, Head Coach Robert Croft said, "Marchant is a match winner. He has pace, aggression and he’s the right age and at the right stage of his career to make an impact for us.

"When you are looking at winning matches in four day cricket, twenty wickets is the challenge and Marchant is a wicket taker, but his performances in one-day cricket have also been impressive and he will be a great addition to our squad.”

Marchant De Lange will be available for selection for all formats for Glamorgan, including the opening Specsavers County Championship clash at Northampton.

He is Glamorgan’s fifth new signing of the season after young Welsh academy graduates Kiran Carlson, Owen Morgan, Lukas Carey and Jack Murphy all signed their first professional contracts with the club over the winter.

Adult Membership and T20 Season Tickets are available from glamorgancricket.com priced from £66 or for under 17s priced £10.
