Meschede and Van der Gugten return

Head Coach Robert Croft has confirmed his 13-man Glamorgan squad, including last year’s Player of the Year Timm van der Gugten, spinner Owen Morgan and all-rounder Craig Meschede, for the opening Royal London One Day Cup clash against Gloucestershire at the Brightside County Ground tomorrow.

Van der Gugten has been out for two months after injuring his shoulder playing for the Netherlands in February, but returned to action for Glamorgan seconds yesterday at Spytty Park recording figures of 3/33 against Gloucestershire to help the Welsh county ease to victory.

Timm joins fellow seam bowlers Michael Hogan, Lukas Carey, Marchant de Lange in the squad. If selected, both Carey and de Lange will make their List-A debuts for the Welsh county.

Colin Ingram topped the batting charts for Glamorgan in white ball cricket last year with 367 runs in List A cricket at an average of 61, whilst both he and Michael Klinger have registered the joint-most centuries in the One Day Cup since 2015.

Young batsman Kiran Carlson (18) who hit a blistering century in the match at Spytty Park yesterday has also been included in the squad, as well as Owen Morgan and Craig Meschede who also both featured at Newport this week after being rested for Championship matches.

The Royal London One Day Cup will now be played in one block of eight fixtures rather than being separated into two chunks as was the case last season and Captain Jacques Rudolph is confident his side can make a positive start with a win against the 2015 Champions.

“Playing in one block format means we will be able to keep our focus on one competition at a time and I always speak about momentum,’ said Rudolph.

“Last year we started very well in the competition and recorded a couple of big wins but we couldn’t keep the momentum in the second lot of fixtures and fell away.”

“The guys are excited about playing white ball cricket and to hit the ground running and its generally a format we pride ourselves in so can get a win on Thursday.

“They are a wily team who play very well in their own conditions so we’ve got to make sure when we arrive in Bristol we know how we want to go about our business.”

Glamorgan have a number of players returning to form ahead of the fixture after batsman Colin Ingram struck a century against Leicestershire and Aneurin Donald and Rudolph himself struck half-centuries.

Gloucestershire welcome back their white ball captain and talisman Michael Klinger to lead their side.

Following Thursday's  game against Gloucestershire, Glamorgan will then play Surrey at The SSE SWALEC on Sunday, followed by an away game against Sussex at Hove the following Tuesday. This year’s competition has been moved earlier in the season, to allow the T20 Blast to be played in the school holidays, and the ICC Championship Trophy to be played in June.
