New Captain, New Start

Fast bowler Michael Hogan will begin his tenure as Glamorgan’s Specsavers County Championship captain tomorrow (Friday) when his side play Durham at St. Helen’s.

Hogan was appointed as captain for the remainder of this year's competition on Tuesday by Hugh Morris and Robert Croft after Jacques Rudolph stepped down from the role.

Glamorgan’s 2013 & 2014 Player of the Year has been a stalwart of Glamorgan’s bowling attack for the last five years and had taken 227 wickets for the county at an average of 23 before this season.

“I have always wanted to captain a side as my career progressed,” said Hogan. “I am not going to say that I am going to solve the world’s problems, but with input from the coach and other players, I hope I can get the club moving forwards."

Glamorgan enter the match unchanged from the squad, which secured a well earned draw with division leaders Nottinghamshire on Monday at The SSE SWALEC.

Colin Ingram and Chris Cooke were the heroes for the Welsh County as they batted out the final day to deny the visitors victory and Hogan believes his side can take great impetus from the performance in to the match at Swansea.

"It was a phenomenal display” added Hogan, “the way Colin and Chris played left the boys with a lot of confidence, coupled with Timm taking a five-for on his comeback game, those performances have given us the momentum we need to move forward.

“Durham have a lot of experience in their squad, with the likes of Collingwood, plus some good young players and Test players too.

“But it might be a good time to get Durham, they’ve been on the road for a while and with Mark Wood out with England. They are still a very good team, so we’ll be focusing on getting our game right with bat and ball and building on last week’s game.”

Glamorgan (13-man) squad to play Durham: Rudolph, Selman, Bragg, Ingram, Cooke (wk), Donald, Carlson, Lloyd, Salter, De Lange, Hogan (c), Carey, van der Gugten

Tickets for the match are priced £15 for adults and FREE for under 17s for all four days of the contest. Tickets will be available to purchase on each day of play from gates 2, 5 and 8.
