Seconds Slip to Sussex Loss

23 May 2017 | Cricket
Glamorgan 2nds lost in the final over in their last Trophy match away at Blackstone Academy Ground against a strong Sussex side yesterday.

Glamorgan's innings which featured a run-a-ball century for Brand and 90 for Lawlor off 117, ended on 298/7. When Brand departed the young side were on 256/4 with a little over 5 overs remaining, but weren't able to form any more significant partnerships to make the total more challenging and were also hampered by Craig Meschede's retirement after being hit on the helmet.

Meschede left the field to undergo the head injury assessment protocols and although he has subsequently recieved the all-clear he wasnt able to play a further role in the match leaving the bowling department short for the home side's chase, which they achieved successfully - with three overs to spare. Will Beer 99 not out the pick of the home team's efforts and Ruaidhri Smith 2-57 the pick of the Glamorgan bowlers.

The seconds start a three-day encoutner with Sussex at the same venue today.

Glamorgan XI: O Morgan, J Lawlor, N Brand (c), K Carlson, C Meschede, J Murphy, S Griffiths, T Cullen (wk), S Pearce, R Smith, K Bull
