Our Junior Indoor League came to a thrilling climax on Sunday as Cardiff CC and Penarth CC won their respective leagues.
Cardiff CC won the Glamorgan U/11s Indoor League by overcoming a spirited Radyr CC team.
Cardiff had been the best team throughout the league going all 6 games undefeated. In the final, they lost the toss and were put into bat by Radyr’s captain Chloe Thomas. After a steady start, they accumulated very well, keeping wickets in hand, which is vital for the mad scramble for runs at the end of an innings. With some accurate bowling also from Radyr with only a handful of extra’s, Cardiff were still able to score 87-4 off their allotted 10 overs.
In reply, Cardiff bowled well and really restricted Radyr from getting ahead of the run rate. In the end, it was just too many runs for Radyr to get and they finished 20 runs behind Cardiff who ran out deserved winners.
Penarth CC won the Glamorgan U/13s Indoor League winning a thrilling contest against St Fagans CC that went all the way down to the penultimate ball of the match.
Penarth Captain Lewis Ingram won the toss and asked St Fagans to bat first. St Fagans got off to a decent start but the innings always seemed pretty close throughout, with the run rate always around the 7 runs per over mark. After a flurry of wickets towards the end of the innings, St Fagans committed the cardinal sin of not using all the balls allocated and finished their innings on 66 all out off 9.4 overs.
In reply, Penarth were using the strategy of keeping wickets in hand and got off to a steady start and after 6 overs were on 39-1. A mad 3 overs ensued with wickets falling and this left Penarth needing 10 off the last over. An eventful over started with a dot ball, followed by 4 byes, a dot ball, and then two threes ttook Penarth to their total with a ball to spare.
