Head Coach Robert Croft has named a 12-man squad for tomorrow’s opening Specsavers County Championship match against Gloucestershire at The Brightside Ground in Bristol.

Michael Hogan returns to captain the side after taking over the helm midway through last season, while compatriot Shaun Marsh is included in the squad and will make his County Championship debut for Glamorgan after arriving in Cardiff.

“The boys are champing at the bit to get the season going. Obviously, we've missed the first round [of games] so I guess we've had a bye, and look we're keeping an eye on the results. They [Gloucestershire] have had a good win through the week, so it'll be a good challenge for us but the boys can't wait to get out there”, said Hogan.

The squad includes eight Glamorgan pathway players, including Nick Selman, who scored four centuries in last season’s Specsavers County Championship as he finished as the Welsh county’s leading run-scorer in the competition.

Glamorgan will be looking to start the Specsavers County Championship season in strong fashion and will hope to build on progress made at the end of last season.

In the penultimate match of 2017 they drew with Gloucestershire in Cardiff, with Kiran Carlson falling nine runs short of becoming Glamorgan’s youngest ever double centurion, before defeating Kent at Canterbury by five wickets with a team which consisted of nine Glamorgan pathway players.

“I've said it before and without sounding like a broken record, it's a work In progress. We expect some good results and I'm sure we will have some inconsistencies along the way but I think we'll have a lot of improvement through our group and noticeable improvement for the fans this year”, added Hogan.

Glamorgan (12-man) squad to play Gloucestershire: Hogan (C), Selman, Murphy, Marsh, Carlson, Donald, Cooke, Lloyd, Salter, Carey, de Lange, van der Gugten
