The Glamorgan Cricket Heritage Gallery- generously supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund - is a celebration of the rich history of Wales’ only first-class club, as well as commemorating the outstanding achievements of the club’s many players.

A series of display panels and video screens have been installed in the lounge areas and along the corridors of the National Cricket Centre at The SWALEC Stadium, allowing visitors to find out more about the fascinating history of the club, and the key role of cricket in the social history of the urban and rural communities throughout Wales.

The Heritage Gallery comprises a series of over 30 panels, each with a series of evocative photographs from the Club’s archives – many of which have never been displayed before – together with an informative commentary in both English and Welsh.

Thanks to the kind assistance of BBC Wales Sport, a series of video loops have also been created, with short film clips of many of the great days in the club’s long history, as well as the wonderful memories from some of the club’s long-standing supporters.

As a result, you can wander through the Heritage Gallery and look back fondly on the days when the likes of Don Shepherd and Alan Jones were taking wickets and scoring runs aplenty for the county, as well as being able to chart the rise of the likes of Hugh Morris, Steve Watkin, Robert Croft and Matthew Maynard into both the Glamorgan team, and on to international honours with England.

The Gallery also celebrates Glamorgan`s three Championship title wins – in 1948, 1969 and 1997 – as well as their victories over many Test nations, including the Australians in 1964 and 1968, plus their success in one-day cricket in the past fifteen years.

There`s a chance as well to find out more about some of the grounds throughout Wales at which Glamorgan have played, as well as reliving some of the famous events to have taken place at these venues.

Fulsome tributes are also paid to the likes of Wilf Wooller, Johnnie Clay and Maurice Turnbull, who in their diverse ways, ensured the future of the club, as well as to the pioneers of Glamorgan Cricket, such as J.H.Brain, Tom Whittington and Norman Riches who all played their part in Glamorgan’s elevation into the County Championship in 1921.

The Gallery extends along the lower corridor of the National Cricket Centre, and continues in the public areas on both the first and second floor (with lift access also provided). Toilet facilities are available on the first floor corridor, whilst on match days, catering will also be provided in the Extra Cover Lounge – where other displays and video screens have been installed.

The Glamorgan Cricket Heritage Gallery is open during normal working hours on Monday-Friday, and at all times on match days. Teaching packs will also be available for school groups. For further information about these, or any other aspect of the Gallery, please contact contact Andrew Hignell, Glamorgan Cricket`s Heritage and Education Manager , on , or by ringing 02920 419383.
