2016 was a record-breaking season for Aneurin (or “Nye”) Donald as he equalled the world record for the fastest double-century in first-class cricket. His efforts from just 123 balls saw the nineteen year-old equal Ravi Shastri’s record, besides being the youngest double-centurion in Glamorgan’s history. Later in the season, the assertive young batsman also became the youngest player in the Club’s history to amass over 1,000 runs in first-class cricket.
Aneurin burst onto the county scene in 2014 striking 59 from just 60 balls on his debut against Hampshire at the SWALEC Stadium, with his combative innings underlining his rich potential in a season which also saw the youngster lead the England Under17s as well as playing for the England Under19s.
In 2015 he posted a double-hundred for Glamorgan 2nd XI against Gloucestershire 2nd XI at Panteg, before making a fine 98 against the West Country side in the County Championship match at Bristol. A product of the Glamorgan Academy, Nye initially played for Gorseinon CC before enjoying a successful time in the South Wales Premier League with Mumbles CC.
Aneurin has led the England Under19s in various one-day tournaments, besides featuring in the ICC Under19 Twenty20 World Cup during 2015/16. He is spending 2016/17 playing grade cricket in Australia, and is set to make a further impact for Glamorgan in both red and white ball cricket.
