Michael Hogan is Glamorgan’s captain in red-ball cricket for 2018. Michael took over from Jacques Rudolph midway through 2017 and led by example, claiming a ten-wicket match haul at Canterbury, as Glamorgan rounded off their 2017 campaign with an emphatic victory against Kent.
The tall Australian has been the spearhead of the Welsh county’s attack for the past five summers as well as becoming the fastest man to reach the landmark of 100 first-class wickets for the Welsh county.
2013 saw Michael Hogan enjoy a stellar debut season in county cricket, taking – in all cricket – over 100 wickets in all forms of the game for the Welsh county. His outstanding first summer of county cricket followed an equally impressive rise up the ranks in Australian cricket which has seen the right-arm pace bowler progress from club cricket in New South Wales to a regular place in the Western Australian state side.
2014 saw Michael enjoy further success in Championship cricket, including a maiden ten-wicket haul in the game against Kent, plus a nerveless display in the home Twenty20 match against the same opponents where he delivered an outstanding final over as the contest ended in a thrilling tie.
He continued to be the spearhead of the Welsh county’s attack in both red and white ball cricket in 2015, where he again delivered some match-winning spells at the end of one-day games. Having retired from first-class cricket in Australia, 2016 and 2017 saw Michael reverting to the role of first-change bowler in Championship cricket and yet again, he delivered some probing and frugal spells as he passed the personal tally of 500 first-class wickets.
Michael was a latecomer to first-class cricket with his debut in 2009 coming after a phone call from Western Australia’s selectors who invited for a trial during after them whilst playing club cricket in New South Wales. Michael duly enjoyed a highly successful opening season in the Sheffield Shield, and wickets have followed at regular intervals in the past three seasons, with the right-armer notching up his 100th first-class wicket in the second innings of Western Australia’s match in 2011/12 against Tasmania.
