Timm van der Gugten, enjoyed an outstanding first summer with Glamorgan in 2016 with the fast-medium bowler claiming 82 wickets in all formats and deservedly being voted the Club’s Player of the Year.
Amongst the highlights were five ‘five-fors’ in Championship cricket plus an explosive 4/14 against Surrey at The Kia Oval as he marked his debut in the NatWest T20 Blast with an outstanding performance against the much-vaunted opponents.
Timm struggled with injury however during 2017 and will be looking to regain his place in the Welsh county’s line-up in both formats during 2018.
Born in Sydney to Dutch parents, Timm has featured in domestic cricket in Australia, and through his Dutch passport, he has played in four One-Day Internationals and nineteen International Twenty20 matches for the Netherlands.
Timm made his first-class debut in 2011 for New South Wales, and since 2012 he has been playing for Tasmania and the Hobart Hurricanes, in addition to appearing for Northern Districts in the Georgie Pie Super Smash competition in New Zealand. He also gained experience of English conditions during a spell in the Lancashire League for Todmorden in 2015.
He made his debut in international cricket in March 2012 for the Netherlands against Afghanistan in Sharjah, whilst in 2013/14 he appeared for the Dutch side in the ICC World Twenty20 competition in Bangladesh. The highlight of the competition for Timm and the Netherlands side came at Chittagong on March 31st where they defeated England by 45 runs in a group game, with Timm claiming the wicket of Eoin Morgan during a frugal three-over spell.
