Glamorgan v Warwickshire: Head to Head

26 Aug 2018 | Cricket
Glamorgan head to Rhos-on-Sea for the annual North Wales Festival of County Cricket as the Welsh county welcome Warwickshire, currently top of the Division Two table, to Colwyn Bay for their Specsavers County Championship encounter, with the game scheduled to get underway at 11am on Wednesday, August 29th.

Warwickshire have played one previous Championship game at the Rhos-on-Sea ground and in that encounter in 2005 they were victorious by ten wickets after centuries by Ian Westwood and Jonathan Trott laid the foundations of a comprehensive victory inside three days for the West Midlands side.

This is the first match between the two sides on Welsh soil since June 2008, when Warwickshire were the victors again at Cardiff by five wickets with opening batsman Ian Westwood playing another fine innings, posting 176 before James Anyon claimed a six-wicket haul as Glamorgan were forced to follow-on. Second time around, it was Chris Woakes who hit the bowling headlines as the all-rounder claimed five wickets before the visiting batsmen eased their side to victory.

Glamorgan’s most recent County Championship victory on Welsh soil against Warwickshire came at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff during a low-scoring encounter in August 1993. Adrian Dale claimed career-best figures of 6/18 as Warwickshire were bundled out for a paltry 125 in their first innings with the all-rounder’s efforts putting Glamorgan into the ascendancy, before a watchful half-century by captain Hugh Morris saw the Welsh county to a two-wicket victory with a day to spare.

Last summer Glamorgan lost a closely-fought match against Sussex by just one wicket with Ollie Robinson providing some late blows to see his side to a narrow victory. However, in July 2016 Glamorgan were victorious by four wickets against Derbyshire at the Rhos-on-Sea ground.
