STAT ATTACK - Glamorgan secure four wins in a row

7 Aug 2018 | Cricket
Glamorgan’s six-run victory against the Essex Eagles on Tuesday evening under the Cardiff floodlights was the Welsh county’s fourth win in a row, equally their best-ever seasonal record set in 2013 when they defeated Worcestershire at New Road, Somerset at Cardiff and Warwickshire at both Rugby School and Cardiff, as well as during 2016 when they beat Kent, Surrey and Sussex, all at Cardiff , before travelling to Richmond to defeat Middlesex.

With the home game against Hampshire looming on Friday evening, and confidence sky high in the Welsh county’s changing room, Glamorgan have never posted five successive wins during a season in the short format of the game, although they did win the final match of their 2012 campaign before their four-match winning sequence at the start of 2013.

Other successful sequences recorded by Glamorgan in Twenty20 cricket have included 5 wins out of 6 games in 2004 ahead of their first appearance at Finals Day at Edgbaston, as well as 6 victories out of 7 during 2016. The latter sequence included a washout against Somerset at Taunton and saw Glamorgan secure a home quarter-final at Sophia Gardens, only to lose to the Yorkshire Vikings by 90 runs.
