Glamorgan travel to Chelmsford to take on Essex under the lights

Head Coach Robert Croft has named a 13-man squad as Glamorgan prepare to take on Essex Eagles on Friday night at Chelmsford in the Vitality Blast.

All-rounder Jeremy Lawlor takes the place of Shaun Marsh who has been ruled out for the season with a significant shoulder injury and will make his T20 debut for Glamorgan if selected in the final XI.

After one win and one loss in their opening Vitality Blast matches, Glamorgan will hope to emulate last year's performance against Essex Eagles when Craig Meschede hit a six off the last ball of the match to secure a thrilling win for the visitors.

The all-rounder has been out of action with a calf injury for most of the season but returned for Glamorgan’s opening win against Hampshire and has fond memories of playing against Essex Eagles.

"It's been good to be back,” said Meschede. “Obviously I've been out for eight-nine weeks and was quite disappointed to pick up such a severe injury and end up missing a lot of cricket, bit it's great to be back involved in T20 which is my favourite format so I'm looking forward to it.

"I’ve got some very good memories here. It's always nerve-wracking playing at Chelmsford, in front of a hostile crowd but it’s a great atmosphere.

“Last year I managed to hit a four and a six off the last two balls to win it so hopefully I can do that again.

"They're [Essex] a good one-day side and I'm expecting a good high-quality game, it's always been close there and never been an easy win but we definitely have the talent to go there and get the win.

"It's a positive feeling [in the dressing room] and we've stuck to what we know, we're not going to panic after one loss so I think the vibes are good in the dressing room.”

Captain Colin Ingram also has good memories from playing at Chelmsford and scored a century in the same match as Glamorgan chased down a record T20 score.

"It's always a high-scoring game on a good wicket so we know that the crowds are two yards away from you on the boundary giving you stick but it's a great atmosphere down there when it's lit up,” said Ingram.

"The guys are always excited to go down there and we've had some good successes there over the past couple of years as well so looking forward to it and hopefully we can get another win on the board.”
