Glamorgan meet Gloucestershire in their opening match in the Royal London One-Day Cup, with the 50 overs contest taking place on Friday, May 18th at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff with play scheduled to start at 11.00am.

Glamorgan also began their List A campaign in 2017 with a contest against Gloucestershire with the rain-affected game at Bristol seeing Jacques Rudolph score an impressive 121, before some clever leg-spin bowling by Colin Ingram kept the home side behind the par score as the Welsh county won under the DLS Method by 18 runs.

The Welsh county had also been victorious in June 2016 at Cardiff as they defeated Gloucestershire who, at the time, were the reigning Cup holders after their victory in the previous year’s final at Lord’s. A composed 53 by Jacques Rudolph plus a fine 75 from Will Bragg saw Glamorgan to a competitive total of 289 before Graham Wagg and Timm van der Gugten made their way through the visitor’s batting line-up as the Welsh county eased to victory by 52 runs.

Gloucestershire were victorious in May 2013 when they previously met Glamorgan in List A cricket with the visitors winning at Cardiff by seven runs, and again in August at Bristol, albeit by the slender margin of two wickets. Glamorgan though had won in May 2011 at Cardiff by four wickets after Dean Cosker claimed 4/30, before opening batsman Gareth Rees posted an unbeaten 59 to see his side to victory.

Red-ball captain Michael Hogan goes into the opening one-day game of the summer close on the verge of another personal landmark. At the end of last summer, Michael claimed his 500th wicket in first-class cricket during Glamorgan’s excellent victory over Kent at Canterbury in the closing game in the Specsavers County Championship, and he is set to reach 100 wickets in List A cricket as he enters the match with Gloucestershire with 99 wickets to his name in the white-ball game.
