Matthew Maynard has been appointed as Glamorgan’s interim head coach following the departure of Robert Croft last month.

As interim head coach, Maynard will lead the Welsh county’s winter training programme for the 2019 season.

The 52-year-old will continue in the position until a new head coach has been recruited, with the process to begin after the appointment of a new director of cricket. Recruitment for the director of cricket position is already underway with interviews to take place in December.

Maynard, a former captain and head coach at Glamorgan, re-joined the club last season as a consultant batting coach after leaving his position as director of cricket at Somerset after three seasons with the club.

He has been a head coach in the Caribbean Premier League and with the Nashua Titans in South Africa. He enjoyed a successful first season with the Titans, winning the domestic four-day competition as well as the domestic T20 competition.

Maynard has also been an assistant coach to the England cricket team and was part of the coaching set up when England won the Ashes in 2005.

Interim head coach, Matthew Maynard, said: “I’m delighted to take up the role as interim head coach. Glamorgan has always been my home, so when Hugh asked me to coach the team over the winter it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

“We’ve had a couple of tough years but I’m very excited at the prospect of working with our talented bunch of players over the winter and I can’t wait to get started.”

Chief Executive, Hugh Morris, added: “Matt has a wealth of experience as a head coach and a real understanding of the club from his time here as both a player and a coach.

“He is highly respected at the club and in the wider cricketing community and has a proven track record of developing and improving young players.

“He’s the ideal person to work with our young Glamorgan Pathway players over the winter while we continue our search for a new director of cricket and head coach.”
