Cooke is a level character with good tactical nous - Wallace

New Glamorgan captain Chris Cooke is ‘highly respected’ at the club and the ideal person to take the Welsh county forward, says director of cricket Mark Wallace

Speaking after Chris Cooke was named the red-ball and 50-over captain, Mark Wallace felt that changes were needed to maximise the efforts of those involved.

“We had to make a change, with Colin Ingram being away with the IPL, so we felt it was a good time to change things up.

“Part of the reasoning behind this decision is to get the best out of Michael Hogan, who did the job admirably last year in tough circumstances. We need to make sure he can rest when he needs to and doesn’t end up bowling all those tough overs that he did last year.

“Chris Cooke is a level character and has a good level of tactical nous too. He’s very well respected in the dressing room and is at that age where he can help provide guidance to the younger players.”

Wallace confirmed that Colin Ingram will continue as the Vitality Blast captain, which will also allow Cooke to “reset himself and recharge his batteries” during the tournament as Wallace himself knows “how tough it is to keep wicket and captain in the Twenty20 format of the game."
