14-man squad named for final two games

Head Coach Matt Maynard has named a 14-man squad to take on Gloucestershire and Worcestershire Rapids.

20-year-old fast-bowler Roman Walker is named in his first squad of 2020, having taken five wickets in three games at the end of the 2019 season. Walker will add competition to the five-man bowling unit that has seen plenty of success during the tournament, alongside Dan Douthwaite and Graham Wagg.

Captain Chris Cooke has seen plenty of positives from his side throughout the tournament, and believes in the ability of his team to put it all together over the final two games of the campaign.

"We've been a bit inconsistent throughout the tournament, but the boys are itching to put it right and put a complete performance together.

"As a batting unit we really want to show what we can do, and back the superb work the bowlers are doing.

"My own form was good at the start of the tournament, and obviously I want to get back to those standards and finish off the tournament on a high."

The bowling unit has been Glamorgan's biggest positive during the Vitality Blast so far, with Andrew Salter sitting on 10 wickets and Prem Sisodiya and Timm van der Gugten both on 9, and Cooke was full of praise for the bowlers' efforts during the campaign.

"Prem and Salts have given us brilliant starts with the ball, and Timm, Marchant and Ruaidhri have been very good in almost every game they've played.

"Prem in particular has stood out - I think his most expensive spell has gone for 29 - and he's been brave and skilful up top in the powerplay. He's taken some massive wickets and given us a real advantage every powerplay."

With Glamorgan now unlikely to qualify for the knockout stages, Cooke was keen to emphasise that his side's motivation remains as high as ever and that they believe that they 'owe it to the supporters' to continue to fight and scrap for the Daffodil on the shirt.

"As a team we just want to give the fans something to cheer about at home, and we are desperate to get that win against Gloucestershire, and then against Worcestershire.

"We’re playing for pride now and we have to do just that, take pride in our performance. It’s the bare minimum expected when playing for Glamorgan and we owe it to ourselves and the supporters."
