Museum Talk - November 7th @ 7pm

1 Nov 2019 | Community

Thursday evening, November 7th, will see Glamorgan Cricket pay tribute to four of their former players who were involved in the D-Days Landings 75 years ago and the associated troop movements in Northern France following the start of Operation Overlord on June 6th, 1944.

“D-Day Remembered” will see a presentation by Andrew Hignell starting at 7pm in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket at Glamorgan’s headquarters in Sophia Gardens during which tributes will be paid to the Club’s former players who were involved in the planning and execution of Operation Overlord, as well as the late Jim Pleass – a member of Glamorgan’s 1948 Championship-winning team - who traversed the English Channel on that fateful day 75 years ago, as well as Maurice Turnbull, the Club’s captain, who in early  August 1944 was killed in Northern France.

The evening will also include some archive film footage of D-Day itself, of Jim Pleass recalling his role in the greatest sea-borne invasion in world history, as well as the special film, created recently by Glamorgan Cricket in conjunction with pupils from Tredegarville PS, which commemorates Maurice Turnbull who was killed in Montchamp on August 5th whilst serving with the Welsh Guards. This will be the first public showing of the film following its premiere at the British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance in St. David’s Hall on Saturday, November 2nd.

Tickets for “D-Day Rememberd” are £3 in advance for current Glamorgan members or £4 on the door on the night. For non-members, it’s £4 in advance or £5 on the door (Price includes complimentary tea and coffee).
