26 Nov 2019 | Cricket

We've put together a list of the key things to look our for in Glamorgan's 2020 fixture calendar, including the return of 'The Big Match,' out-ground cricket throughout Wales and our IT20.

1. The Big Match returns

Glamorgan launched ‘The Big Match’ against local rivals Somerset this season and it will return again in 2020 on Friday, 12th June.

Over 6,000 supporters attended the first edition - a record crowd for Glamorgan on a non-Friday night match.

The Welsh county will be looking for revenge in 2020 after falling to defeat in a run fest in the inaugural fixture.

2. Glamorgan lighting up Swansea, North Wales & Newport

Glamorgan will be taking cricket across Wales in 2020 with Specsavers County Championship matches once again being played ats St. Helen’s and Colwyn Bay.

Swansea will welcome Durham from Sunday, 28th June, while north Wales will host a star-studded Nottinghamshire side on Sunday, 23rd August.

After the success of last year’s County Championship fixture in Newport, the venue will hold two Royal London Cup matches over a thrilling weekend of cricket with Yorkshire playing on Friday, 31st July and Nottinghamshire on Sunday 2nd August.

It will be the first time Newport has hosted a List A match since 2016 when Glamorgan played Pakistan A.

3. The best of Women’s Cricket, back at Sophia Gardens

The last time Sophia Gardens hosted women’s cricket was back in 2015 when England faced Australia in an IT20. Sciver & Shrubsole tore apart the Aussie batting order in a double header with an England Men’s match. Now, elite women’s cricket is back.

Sophia Gardens will host Welsh Fire Women’s home debut, on Tuesday 28th July, in a doubleheader with the Men’s Team. Members will get priority access & a discount for these tickets, when they go on sale in January.

4. Aussie Superstars to light up Cardiff

The Hundred arrives in 2020 and Sophia Gardens will host all four men’s Welsh Fire fixtures. The team is packed full of world class talent, including Aussie superstars Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith, as well as England international Jonny Bairstow and Glamorgan’s own Colin Ingram.

They’ll join serial Ashes winners Jess Jonassen & Meg Lanning in our Men’s & Women’s squads.
