“The award-winning Glamorgan community programme aims to use the values that are central to cricket as a way of increasing educational performance, promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging more people from more diverse communities to play and follow cricket.”

Cricket Wales

Cricket Wales is the national governing body for recreational cricket in Wales and is one of 39 Boards affiliated to the England and Wales Cricket Board.

The Cricket Wales Board is made up of representatives from senior cricket, junior cricket, cricket officials and Glamorgan Cricket. Additional non-executive specialist skills also exist on the Board, for example Directors with responsibility for finance and welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

Cricket Wales shares with Glamorgan five main objectives in our joint strategy:

1. Successful elite teams and international players
2. Fit-for-purpose facilities and infrastructure for cricket in Wales
3. Increase the number of people positively experiencing cricket
4. A great player and fan experience at all levels
5. A more sustainable game in Wales

Cricket Wales and Glamorgan Cricket - Joint Strategy

A new and first ever shared strategy has been progressed across Cricket Wales and Glamorgan Cricket. This will be published soon.

Safeguarding is very important across cricket, and our supports and efforts can be seen here.

We have a diversity programme, mainly supporting black and minority ethnic cricket in Cardiff. This is also supported via collaboration with South Wales Police in terms of the Cardiff Cohesion Cup. Visit the Cricket Wales Equality page here.

A key growth for the game is women and girls' cricket. To find out more and to get involved, click here.

The Cricket in Wales Foundation is set up to attract donations and funds to take cricket into new areas of Wales. You can find out more here.

Each year, clubs that commit to junior cricket via the All Stars and Dynamos programmes are offered tickets, as a thank you for developing the game in Wales.

The Glamorgan Ambassador Club scheme encourages clubs to bring big groups to T20 Matches for ‘Big Night Outs’.

Prestige recreational games also take place at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, and often include (depending on schedules)

  • South Wales Premier League T20 final
  • Senior Welsh Cup
  • Kwik Cricket Finals
  • Cardiff Cohesion Community Cup with South Wales
  • Cricket Wales U13 & U15 Club Finals

Safeguarding

Growing the game

By far the biggest focus is growing the game for children via All Stars Cricket, and Dynamos.

About 125 centres are currently set to deliver these programmes.

Training Volunteers

Volunteers make cricket work. A typical winter's workforce education programme helped 670+ people get trained across all aspects of making cricket run in Wales, including coaches, umpires, and groundskeepers.

Performance Pathway

Through club recommendations, regional and Wales age group representative cricket and a network of very experienced coaches, we work closely across Glamorgan and Cricket Wales to produce the future Glamorgan professionals.
