Anderson Misses First India Test

England have named an unchanged squad for next month’s Test tour to India.

All-time leading wicket taker James Anderson has been omitted while he recovers from a shoulder injury although it is hoped he will still play some part in the series.

England will play five Tests in India, starting in Rajkot on 9 November, hoping to emulate the famous series win in 2012.

England began their winter in the subcontinent with a narrow 22-run win over Bangladesh in Chittagong. The second Test in Dhaka begins on Friday.

England:

Alastair Cook (captain, Essex)
Moeen Ali (Worcestershire)
Zafar Ansari (Surrey)
Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire)
Jake Ball (Nottinghamshire)
Gary Ballance (Yorkshire)
Gareth Batty (Surrey)
Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire)
Jos Buttler (Lancashire)
Ben Duckett (Northamptonshire)
Steven Finn (Middlesex)
Haseeb Hameed (Lancashire)
Adil Rashid (Yorkshire)
Joe Root (Yorkshire)
Ben Stokes (Durham)
Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)

Next year England will return to Cardiff to play two fixtures in the Welsh capital, first in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy against New Zealand, then 19 days later against South Africa in the third and final NatWest International T20 clash.
