Lisvane and Radyr Lift Glamorgan Indoor League Trophies

Lisvane under 11s defeated Cardiff, whilst Radyr under 13s got the better of St Fagans to lift the annual titles for each club at The SSE SWALEC earlier this week.

There are two age brackets in the Glamorgan indoor league - u11s and u13s -  with 7 teams competing in each age group from different clubs in South Wales.

Each team is allowd 6 players, with games 10 overs long and played to ECB indoor rules. The top 3 teams in both age brackets made it through to finals night, which had to be delayed this winter until mid January rather than the usual November finish due to a clash of other events.

The team that finishes top of the round robin phase get a direct route to the final with the 2nd and 3rd placed teams participating in a play off before the final.

In the u11s division, Cardiff CC finished top of the group so had a straight passage to the final. Lisvane CC and Miskin Manor CC played off to see who would join them.

During this play-off match, Lisvane notched up 73 runs in their 10 overs and that was always going to be tough to chase. To their credit, Miskin batted the full ten overs but finished comfortably short of Lisvane’s total.

The final played out in a similar way, as Lisvane batted first again, and notched up an even more impressive total of 84 against table toppers Cardiff. Although Cardiff had some good moments with the bat, Lisvane’s total proved too much as Cardiff finished on 57.

In the u13 division Radyr CC were top of the top of the table so went direct into the final, although the top three teams were very well matched throughout the league and finished with identical records of just the single loss in the league. St Fagans CC met Cardiff CC in the play off to make it through to the final with Radyr.

In the play-off, Cardiff made 67, but definitely fell short as they were on track to 80+. St Fagans in reply were always up with the required rate and despite losing a few wickets towards the end, reached their total comfortably enough.

In the final, Radyr batted first and made a highly impressive 93. It was looking at being a nail biter, with 38 required in 4 overs, but Radyr were able to claim 3 quick wickets and bowl out St Fagans for 70.

"Congratulations to both Lisvane CC and Radyr on their success," commented Michael Clayden Glamorgan coach and National Cricket Centre Manager. "The standard is very high and the commitment of players, parents and coaches is appreciated."
