Finals Day is always special - Cullen

2nd Team Coach Steve Watkin has named a 13-man squad for the 2nd XI T20 Finals Day at Arundel on Thursday, 15th August.

After winning eight of their twelve games the side will be taking part in their first T20 Finals Day, and their reward for finishing 2nd in the South group is facing North group champions Nottinghamshire in the opening game of the day, with play starting at 10.30am - updates are available via @Glamcricket or the NVPlay website.

With 29 players making an appearance, eight players reach triple digits in the runs column and twenty players taking at least one wicket each, the campaign so far has been the epitome of a team effort.

Tom Cullen, who has been captain of the 2nd XI throughout the majority of the tournament, emphasised that the competition for places has really propelled the team forward.

“It’s been a pleasure to be a part of,” said Cullen.

“It’s just reward for the hard yards the boys have been putting in all season. The performances have been good and we deserve to be where we are.

"Finals Day is always special, whether it’s first team or second team, and to be a part of our first Finals Day is again just reward for playing well throughout the competition.

“We have over 20-odd lads on the staff who are vying to play first team cricket, and that competition for places has spurred some individuals on to gain an opportunity in the first team.

"Everyone wants to show what they can do to the management, and a number of boys have put in some great performances, and have rightly been rewarded for those.

“We’ve put together quite a few team performances this year with guys chipping in at some point with a match-winning performance along the way, and ultimately, that’s what it’s all about.

"It’s been great to see the positive attitude that the boys have displayed when they’ve been playing, and how much that they want to win."

Cullen isn't content to just reach Finals Day and sees the finale as an opportunity for his side to show exactly what they are made of.

“The boys are very excited, it is a huge opportunity for us and we go there looking to play hard cricket, which is no different to what we’ve done throughout the competition. The hard work we have put in will hopefully show on the day but we can’t forget we’ll have two very competitive teams we will have to overcome to achieve that.

"We want to come away with a big win, and I am confident that if we apply ourselves with the same attitude we’ve displayed throughout the competition, we can pull it off."
