Marnus Labuschagne has been named Glamorgan’s Player of the Year and County Championship Player of the Year after an incredible season which saw him become the first man in the country to reach 1,000 County Championship runs in 2019.

The Australian finished the season with 1,114 First-Class runs at an average over 65, which included five centuries. He struck a career-best 182 against Sussex as he put on 291 with Nick Selman - a new Glamorgan record for any 2nd wicket partnership - to help Glamorgan overcome a steep deficit and secure a draw.

Labuschagne also managed to take 19 wickets with his leg-spin and was a big reason for Glamorgan going unbeaten during their first nine matches in the competition.

North Walian David Lloyd picked up the county’s One-Day Player of the Year award after a prolific season with the bat. Lloyd topped the county’s run charts in the Vitality Blast with 358 runs at a strike rate of 140, which included three half-centuries.

He also enjoyed a successful Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, scoring 240 runs in the competition.

Dan Douthwaite was awarded the John Derrick Young Player of the Year Award following a breakthrough season with the club. Douthwaite scored 298 runs and took 17 wickets runs in the County Championship.

His all-round display against Derbyshire helped Glamorgan to a nerve-wracking victory as he took a career-best 4/48 in the second innings and hit 70 runs in the match.

Roman Walker picked up the award for 2nd XI Player of the Year. He was part of the 2nd XI team which won the 2nd XI T20 competition, bowling the dramatic final over as he successfully defended seven runs.

Walker also made his Vitality Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup debuts for the club and hit the winning runs against Sussex at Hove in front of the Sky cameras as the Welsh county chased down a limited-overs club record of 347.

Sam Jardine was announced as the Academy Player of the Year. Jardine took 15 wickets for the Wales U17s team in the National U17s one-day cup competition and scored 424 runs in the U17s Championship, which included two centuries.

The St Helen’s Balconiers will host their annual Awards event tomorrow (Monday, 30th September) in Swansea, when further player awards will be presented to recognise stand-out milestone achievements and reminisce on a number of anniversaries that were celebrated during the 2019 season.
