It is amazing to be in the record books - de Lange

Marchant de Lange scored a record-breaking century as he hammered 113 off 78 balls to get his Glamorgan side to 261, with his 62-ball century the fastest in Glamorgan history.

His maiden century was part of a powerful partnership of 168 off 19.4 overs with Dan Douthwaite, who led Glamorgan's counter-attack with a dazzling 86 from 92 deliveries, and de Lange believes his 'simple' technique allowed him to succeed in such amazing fashion.

"I'm a tail-ender so I try to keep it simple, just try to get bat on ball and play to my strengths and clear the rope, that's my goal. It's incredible from a personal point of view.

"It's amazing to be in the record books, I just wanted to contribute to the team. I just tried to play ball by ball, I wasn't aware of any of that (the county record.)

"There's no secret to my batting, I try to see ball, hit ball, keep it simple.

The partnership with Douthwaite, another Glamorgan record in a game of tail-end heroics, carried the side well beyond the runs level mark and into potential match-winning territory, with de Lange admitting that he wasn't thinking too much into the future while he was batting.

"Myself and Dan wanted a partnership, we knew if we just got a bit of bat on that shorter side of the ground, it would go the distance.

"Just to get into this (match) position, it's something we weren't thinking about but you never know."
