We just haven’t executed with the bat in this game - Maynard

Glamorgan fell to their third straight defeat in the Specsavers County Championship after they were bowled out for 156 in their 2nd innings to lose to Worcestershire by 155 runs at New Road

The Welsh county bowled well at the start of day three with Samit Patel taking 4-59 but a target of 312 proved too much, despite a brief counter-attacking innings of 45 by captain Chris Cooke.

“I’ve just spoken to the lads and we are playing outside of the game plans to when we were doing so well earlier in the season," said head coach Matt Maynard.

“You want a good start, get up to 60 or 70 for no wicket, put the opposition under a bit of pressure, try and get the opening bowlers into their second, third, fourth spells.

“Then you are 0-2 after the first over with some cloudy thinking from the opener and number three to run out your overseas (Kraigg Brathwaite).

“That is very disappointing. It is frustrating. We just haven’t executed with the bat in this game.

“They are a little bit down in the dressing room at the moment – and you would hope to see that as well.

“But we’ve still got an opportunity of getting a sniff of promotion with two victories.”
